Position Title: Director of Operations

Location: Shoreview, Minnesota or Washington, DC

Start Date: As soon as possible, this is a full time staff position

 

I have been retained by Land O’Lakes International Development to help them find an experienced Director of Operations. The Director of Operations will provide leadership to the establishment, implementation and oversight to Program Operations through the project life cycle. This position will manage our Program Operations team, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Contacts and Compliance teams, as well as participate as a member of the Senior Management Team. The Director of Operations includes 10-20% travel to field locations.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, manage and motivate high performing teams;
  • Research, implement and continuously evaluate best practices to effectively start up, implement and close out donor funded projects;
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with applicable laws and donor requirements;
  • Implement and continuously improve policies, processes and procedures;
  • Manage special initiatives in program implementation;
  • Increase technical skills of staff;
  • Provide overall guidance to the design and implementation on an M&E plan an data collection system;
  • Ensure processes, procedures and systems are in place for effective monetization activities;
  • Manage functional budgets;
  • Actively participate as a member of the Senior Management Team;
  • Work with Senior Management Team to develop and implement IDD’s 3-year plan and department business plans;
  • Foster a success-oriented, professional and accountable environments; and
  • Stay current on trends and themes in international development and US government funding by participating in appropriate professional organizations and external professional networks.

 

Required Qualifications: Strong candidates for this position will have:

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in managing US government funded programs (required), especially USAID-funded programs
  • Demonstrated experience and success in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, processes and procedures;
  • Experience managing large contract(s) funded by US government; (required)
  • Demonstrated experience managing and overseeing Monitoring and Evaluation systems for US government funded contracts and agreements; (required) and
  • Field based experience managing and implementing development projects in developing countries. (required)
  • Master’s degree in Business, International Development or related field; (required),
  • US citizenship or authorization to work in the US is required.

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience managing US Food Aid programming (USAID and/or USDA); and
  • Fluent in other languages (preferably French, Portuguese or Swahili)
