Here is another volunteer Short Term Technical Assignment (STTA) that I am recruiting on behalf of Partners of the Americas in Washington DC.
Title: Cost of Production Expert
Location: Dominican Republic
Preferred Start Date: February 2012--- assignments to last a few weeks.
The Short Term assignment below is to fulfill requirements of Partners’ USAID-funded Farmer to Farmer Program. The program provides technical assistance to agricultural producers, organizations, agribusinesses and universities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through the program, U.S. specialists donate their time and expertise and spend two to three weeks on specific technical assignments, working directly with counterparts in the region to address local needs. Volunteers may travel individually or in teams. The Program covers all costs of airfare, lodging, meals, insurance, and any work related expenses. It does not compensate for daily or hourly consultant fees.
Assignment Summary:
There is a need for a cost of production study focusing on vegetable grown in greenhouses. As part of the cost of production, the volunteer would identify and recommend practices to improve credit management. The volunteer would be working with local producer and the technicians that work with their communities.
Volunteer Qualifications Requirements:
a. Experience in determining cost of production of vegetables growing in green
b. Previous experience collecting information for value chain studies on the production of vegetable in greenhouses
c. Experience in providing training to farmers and technicians in the above areas
d. Knowledge of Spanish helpful
e. US Citizenship Required
Expected Results:
a) Improve management of the production techniques related to the cost of production.
b) Identify and recommend the best practices for effective management of the cost of production.
c) Developed cost of production of vegetables produced in green houses.
d) Trained farmers and technicians in determining cost of production of vegetables produced in green houses.
Expected Deliverables:
a. Cost of production of vegetables produced in green houses.
b. Farmers and technicians trained on management and monitoring cost of production.
c. Develop a system to improve the management and effectiveness of credit by small farmers
