We are seeking a Principal, based in Washington, DC, to deliver impact through high-level relationships and high-impact projects as a part of the growing leadership team. With a successful track record leading fast-growing global teams, the Principal will be responsible for the effective management of Miyamoto’s global international development + humanitarian assistance portfolio in disaster mitigation, response, and reconstruction. A successful candidate will have past leadership experience in analyzing and planning business strategy, successfully responding to client’s needs and expectations, identifying innovative programming approaches, developing winning proposals and delivering successful programs. As the role develops and the operating environment supports it, a combination of remote and onsite work, including program-related travel, is expected. Flexibility in timing and working hours to accommodate global teams is also expected.

Key responsibilities of this position are:

 

Business Operations and Management

  • Identify needs and lead the development of operational systems across business functions that support a fast-growing global team in executing on their functions and delivering high-impact programs. This includes overseeing development of business procedures, such as procurement, for donor compliance, working with project management and finance teams to set up project delivery systems, and overseeing roll-out of effective processes, and ways of working, across business functions and global project offices.
  • Work together with teams to troubleshoot and develop solutions to operational challenges and management issues by developing strategies and action plans.
  • Manage all key functions of the department, including program management, business development and proposals, operations, finance, and compliance.

 

Leadership, Growth and Representation

  • Serve as a key representative in the Washington D.C. market and supports international representation on development and assistance issues as needed.
  • Work with global and local teams to Identify growth opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Mentor and support a variety of US-based and global team members working on highly technical programs.

  • Successful track-record leading a global team and extensive experience overseeing a range of business functions from finance and operations to program delivery, business development and proposals.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in the field of international development and humanitarian assistance with progressive and at least 3 years extensive leadership responsibilities at a senior executive level.
  • Minimum 2 years of Direct experience in disaster risk management and /or climate change adaptation and mitigation is required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in USAID projects and deep knowledge of USAID contracting mechanisms and compliance.
  • Other USG experience is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of the multilateral and bilateral donor landscape with strong existing networks.
  • Hands-on leader with rolled up sleeves and works as part of the team.
  • Outstanding diplomatic, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Degree in international relations/international development, business, engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
